After years of talking, the animal shelter Louterbloemen and six municipalities in the Drechtsteden signed a multi-year partnership in late March. With those signatures, the shelter can start with the long-cherished new construction and renovation. The new building of the Dordrecht animal shelter is necessary to meet all legal requirements that will take effect from 2020.The plans include space for a larger kennel for the dogs, the cats also have more space and there is a building for other types of animals, such as rodents and birds. The current building will remain, but the interior will be completely gutted and rearranged. In addition, there will be a connection between the old building and part of the new building.
Bureau Bouwkunde Nederland has supported the client for various architectural matters, from the Final Design (DO) to implementation.
