Het langwerpige Minnaertgebouw bestaat voor een deel uit drie bouwlagen. Halverwege het gebouw verspringt het met een schuine hoek omhoog naar vijf bouwlagen. De gevel is dragend en bestaat uit een prefab betonnen binnenblad.

De buitenzijde is van spuitbeton dat is aangebracht op een ondergrond van roestvrij staalgaas. Aan het spuitbeton is ijzeroxide toegevoegd, dat de roestrode kleur veroorzaakt. Hier en daar is een “plooi”in de huid aangebracht door middel van een kunststof ribbel onder het gaas. Dit geeft een effect alsof het gebouw is gehuld in een iets te ruim jasje. In de hal zijn verwarmde alkoven geplaatst. Zo is het toch aangenaam om te zitten in de verder onverwarmde hal. De alkoven zijn voorzien van bankjes, bekleed met rode pluche dat een knusse indruk geeft en contraseert met de koel marmer van de hal.

Als eerbetoon aan de man die zijn naam gaf aan het gebouw, steunt het voor een deel op zilverkleurige letters die het woord “Minnaert” vormen. Deze verdieping hoge letters maken deel uit van de draagconstructie en komen in de plaats van gewone kolommen. De entree van het gebouw leidt een trap omhoog naar een grote ruimte. Hier bevindt zich een groot opvangbassin voor regenwater, dat gebruikt wordt voor het doorspoelen van toiletten. Tevens wordt het bassin gebruikt voor koeling van het gebouw waardoor op de installaties bespaard kon worden.

The elongated Minnaert building partly consists of three floors. Halfway through the building, it skews at an oblique angle to five floors. The facade is load-bearing and consists of a prefab concrete inner sheet.

The outside is made of shotcrete which is applied to a surface of stainless steel mesh. Iron oxide has been added to the shotcrete, which causes the rust-red color. Here and there a “fold” is made in the skin by means of a plastic rib under the gauze. This gives an effect as if the building is wrapped in a slightly too spacious jacket. Heated alcoves were placed in the hall. So it is still pleasant to sit in the otherwise unheated hall. The alcoves are equipped with benches, covered with red plush that gives a cozy impression and contrast with the cool marble of the hall.

As a tribute to the man who gave his name to the building, it is partly based on silver letters that form the word “Minnaert”. These storey-high letters are part of the supporting structure and replace normal columns. The entrance of the building leads up a staircase to a large room. Here is a large rainwater collection basin, which is used for flushing toilets. The basin is also used for cooling the building, which made it possible to save on the installations.
