MoederscheimMoonen Architects recently completed a new sports pavilion in Rotterdam. The building is part of Park Zestienhoven; a new spacious and green residential area north of the city center.

Just between the park area and the residential building, a new accommodation was realized on behalf of the municipality of Rotterdam for two football association pavilions, which had to be a striking design in which airiness and transparency were two important elements. The design stems from a split in the schedule of requirements. The dressing facilities and storage on the ground floor and the canteen including boardrooms on the first floor. To maintain contact with the playing fields, the ground level slopes from the playing level to the level of the canteen. This makes the canteen part of the green environment and creates a one-layer pavilion on top of this green tep. profiled in such a way that it functions as a sunbathing area. This way you can enjoy the football that is played on the surrounding fields at various levels and in different ways.

The building is completed with a generously extending semi-transparent roof. This roof forms the connecting element between the two associations and contributes to the desired light pavilion-like appearance. The roof filters sunlight during the day and glows as a lantern in the evenings thanks to the integration of LED lighting. The building will thus become a beacon in the area and will also contribute to social safety in the area.
